INCOME LIMITS

Medicaid income limits Utah 2026: the numbers at a glance

Monthly income limits by program

These are the limits Utah’s Department of Workforce Services (DWS) uses for people 65+ and people with Medicare. They’re based on the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) and took effect March 1, 2026.

  • Utah Medicaid, aged, blind or disabled (100% FPL): $1,330 a month (single) · $1,804 (couple)
  • QMB, Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (100% FPL): $1,330 · $1,804
  • SLMB, Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary (120% FPL): $1,596 · $2,164
  • QI, Qualifying Individual (135% FPL): $1,796 · $2,435
  • Extra Help with Part D drug costs (federal): $23,940 a year (single) · $32,460 (couple), about $1,995 and $2,705 a month

Utah’s table measures countable income, which is your income after allowed deductions. Medicare.gov lists slightly higher federal MSP figures for 2026 ($1,350, $1,616 and $1,816 for one person). Either way, DWS makes the final call, so if you’re close, apply. (Utah Medicaid Policy Manual, Table VII; Medicare.gov – Medicare Savings Programs)

Medicaid income limits Utah 2026 table: Utah Medicaid for aged, blind or disabled and QMB $1,330 a month single and $1,804 couple, SLMB $1,596 and $2,164, QI $1,796 and $2,435, Extra Help $23,940 and $32,460 a year.

What if my income is over the limit?

Utah has a Medically Needy (spenddown) program for people who are aged, blind or disabled. If your countable income is above 100% FPL, you may still qualify by using medical bills, or paying the difference, to bring your income down to the limit each month. (Utah Medicaid Policy Manual 443-2)

ASSET LIMITS

The resource limits

Income is only half the test. Each program also has an asset (resource) limit, and they’re very different:

  • Utah Medicaid (aged, blind or disabled): $2,000 single · $3,000 couple
  • QMB, SLMB and QI: $9,950 single · $14,910 couple
  • Extra Help: $18,090 single · $36,100 couple

So someone with $8,000 in savings is over the Medicaid asset limit but can still be under the Medicare Savings Program limit. (Utah Medicaid Policy Manual, Table II; Medicare.gov – Help with drug costs)

What usually counts and what usually doesn't

Countable assets usually include cash, checking and savings, CDs, stocks and bonds. For aged, blind or disabled Medicaid, Utah doesn’t count the home you live in as your main residence, regardless of its value, and it excludes one vehicle used for transportation for you or your household. Nursing home and other long-term care Medicaid has extra home rules, including a home equity limit. Ask Utah DWS for your situation. (Utah Admin. Code R414-305-3; 20 CFR 416.1212; Utah Medicaid Policy Manual 521-4)

Utah Medicaid asset limits 2026: $2,000 single and $3,000 couple for aged, blind or disabled Medicaid; $9,950 and $14,910 for QMB, SLMB and QI; $18,090 and $36,100 for Extra Help.

DUAL ELIGIBILITY

Dual eligibility: when you have Medicare and Utah Medicaid

What "dual eligible" means

If you qualify for both Medicare and full Utah Medicaid, you’re dual eligible. Medicare pays first. Medicaid can then help with costs Medicare leaves behind, and it covers some services Medicare doesn’t. Many dual eligible Utahns also get QMB, which pays Medicare premiums, deductibles and copays.

Which program fits your income

Think of it as a ladder. At or under 100% FPL, you may qualify for full Medicaid plus QMB. Between 100% and 120%, SLMB pays your Part B premium. Between 120% and 135%, QI pays your Part B premium if Utah’s yearly QI funds are still available. Above that, Extra Help may still lower your drug costs.

The 2026 Part B standard premium is $202.90 a month, so an MSP that pays it is worth about $2,435 a year. (CMS – 2026 Medicare Parts A & B Premiums and Deductibles)

Utah income ladder for people with Medicare in 2026: up to 100% FPL full Medicaid plus QMB, 100 to 120% SLMB, 120 to 135% QI, and above that Extra Help for Part D.

Extra Help comes with it

If you get full Medicaid, an MSP, or SSI, you get Extra Help with Part D automatically. You don’t need a separate application. (Medicare.gov – Help with drug costs) The Part D yearly out-of-pocket cap still applies to everyone. Learn more in the Medicare Part D out-of-pocket cap.
